ABOUT US

My name Kevin Jones and I own the Chili Dog Cafe and this is the Official website of the Chili Dog Cafe. Contrary to the name of our restaurant we serve much more than Hot Dogs. We have a full menu of delicious options. We specialize in the best hot dogs in Lubbock and homemade chili. The chili is a old family recipe that has been passed down from my grandmother for two generations. She learned the recipe from a man affectionately known as "Old Fart". As the story goes, my grandmother Gloria "Glo" Dearing and her husband Walker loved to travel and their favorite thing to do as they traveled was sample the local cuisine. As a result of her travels and her love for serving people great food, Glo forgot more about cooking than most people will ever know. Once when they were in New Mexico at a chili cook off, Glo took notice of an older man cooking chili and being that she had an eye for culinary talent she knew that this man knew his way around a chili pot. She stood and watched him long enough that he took notice and invited her into the make shift kitchen so that she could get a better look at his work. As she had expected Old Fart knew a thing or two about making great chili. He showed her the ins and outs of competitive chili making and allowed her to take notes. What she wrote down that day was what would become Glo's Chili Recipe. Over the years it became one of the most popular dishes that she would make. The whole neighborhood on 6th Street in Seminole, TX always waited for her to make her famous chili, which she always made around Super Bowl time. Thus it became known to the younger generation as Glo's Super Bowl Chili.

As a kid I always loved visiting my grandmother Glo's house. She had a pool, there were lots of kids to play with in the neighborhood and we always got to cook something special, which has always one of my favorite things to do. We made homemade pizza, ribs, spaghetti with meat balls and marinara sauce, Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings, homemade ice cream, salsa, boiled shrimp and of course chili. She showed me all the little tricks that she used that made her cooking better than others. When I was 16 she let me make the chili all by myself, with her watching over my shoulder of course. All the neighbors said that we had made the best chili ever. So when I started thinking of restaurant concepts they always revolved around Glo's chili recipe. One day I was eating a hot dog from a cart in Midland, TX and I thought to myself "a hot dog is obviously the best way to introduce people to my grandmother's chili recipe" and so it was that day that the idea for the Chili Dog Cafe got legs. A little over two years later, that dream became a reality. On October 15th 2009 we opened the doors at 5903 82nd Street and it has been a blast since. Come by the Cafe and try out all that we have to offer: Black Angus Beef Burgers, Bratwursts, Hand Battered Appetizers Unique Salads and Sandwiches, Desserts and of course our Hot Dogs. We always cook everything to order, cut all the vegetables by hand and take the utmost pride in the quality of our food and providing a great experience for everyone of our guest. Thanks for reading a little bit about our cafe. Don't forget to tell a friend and spread the love of the Chili and the Chili Dog Cafe!
